Glenn and Steph are back with a cross-cultural extravaganza. On The Suss this week, we hear from Peter Kavanagh (@TheKavOfficial), one of Ireland’s foremost champions of the Irish language, a founder of the increasingly popular Pop-Up Gaeltacht and the Green Party’s Spokesperson for the an Gaeilge. He gives us his take on whether the language is progressing or regressing and on what structural changes could be a game changer. Also in studio with us this time is Fatin Al Tamimi, Chairperson of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (@ipsc48). Israeli forces are still detaining teenager #AhedTamimi, who is quickly becoming a symbol for the resistance. Ahed could be any Palestinian. We delve into the occupation, how, despite media framing, it isn’t a ‘conflict’ at all and the growing successes of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. In the first part of the show, we look at our usual ups and downs, smiles and frowns of the week. We’ve championed whistleblowers in the past and we do again in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica revelations. We also give a big ‘up’ to some timely digital activism from the folks at the Transparent Referendum Initiative (@transparentref). Not so popular this week: Minister Ross further divides education along class lines and what it really means for the rest of us when a closeness between Sir Paul Hewson and Varadkar is revealed.
